Week 9 – Update

Evening,

As the school year comes to an end, now the clean-up and pack away begins. Please remember to send an extra bag to school tomorrow to help carry home old workbooks and artwork that has been taken down.

Christmas Lunch and Colour Run  – Tuesday 10th December

On Tuesday 10th December, all students will be involved in the Whole School Christmas Lunch and Colour Run.  Students are invited to join the Christmas theme by wearing ‘Christmasy’ clothes on that day.  Lunch will consist of chicken, chips and salad, with a drink and ice cream.  If your child has a food allergy that needs to be considered in this menu, please ensure that your child’s class teacher is aware of this.

We would love some more helpers to prepare and serve the food, so if you are available to help from 11 am, please meet us in the Bukatilla kitchen.

After lunch students will be involved in the Water Day and Colour Run.  This will include several land-based water activities and conclude with a ‘colour run’ around the oval. We have purchased colour run powder so be prepared for very colourful students to come home. White is the best colour to wear for a colour run and so students may wish to get changed into white clothes for this activity.  Please bring a bag containing:

  • Old pants/shorts, sandals or thongs and a white or light coloured shirt – which will become very colourful!
  • An old towel – to be used to dry off after the activities and for the car trip home.
  • Goggles – optional for the colour run and splash activities
  • Garbage bag fashioned into a smock (optional but a great idea for the car trip home!)

The colour run powder is non-toxic and usually washes out of clothes in one or two washes (with a little help from Napisan). Children who participate in this event will have lots of fun but expect that they will get very messy.  The colour run powder will be thrown by adults only.

Parents may wish to change their own children back into dry and clean clothes before going home, and the change rooms in Bukatila may be used for this purpose.

The colour run will happen at the end of the school day and parents are welcome to join us for the fun.

Christmas Lunch and Colour Run – Tuesday 7th December 2021

This year, we plan to hold our School Christmas Lunch a little differently than we did pre-COVID.  This year we will be celebrating in Learning Community groups to enjoy our chicken, chips, salad, drink and ice-cream lunch.   In order to distance ourselves, we will be utilising large indoor and outdoor areas of the school to dine or picnic.

This lunch is provided by the school and will be served in individual portions to children.  If your child has dietary restrictions which we are not aware of, please communicate this with your child’s teacher.

Following lunch, our students will get to enjoy our annual water fun afternoon, together with the colour run.

Children can come to school in Christmas themed clothing, as classes will be involved in many Christmas activities throughout the day.

After lunch (2pm) students will have the chance to be involved in a wide variety of water and dry games.  Just before 3pm we will begin the colour run, which will follow a course through the school ground.

The colour run powder works best on white clothes and so we invite children to bring a white t-shirt to school to use during the colour run.  We will give students time to change into their white shirts before the water activities.  The colour run powder is non-toxic and can be removed with laundering.

As children end up very messy, we suggest that, if you are collecting your child from school on that Tuesday, you pack a large garbage bag for your child to wear over their clothes in the car.  Towels for the car seat are also a good idea.  Alternatively, you are welcome to use the Bukatila changerooms for your child to change before heading home.

If your child is travelling by bus, they may wish to pack clean clothes to change into after the colour run.

Participation in the colour run is optional. Children who do not want to be involved will be able to watch from a central position.

Parents are welcome to attend this event from 2pm, being mindful of COVID safe practices and ensuring that you sign in.  We will have a sign in sheet available at the oval.  Visitors are reminded that masks should be worn if physical distancing is not possible.

If you have questions about the day, please talk to your child’s teacher or contact the front office

Grandparents and Special Friends – We need your help!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is not going ahead this year, but that does not mean that we are not thinking of them.  We are hoping to have all of our students write a letter to a Grandparent or Special Friend in the coming weeks.  We would love to send the letters through the mail, so we need your help!

Please provide the postal address of a Grandparent or Special Friend.  Your child can record the address on their iPad and keep it safe until needed.  We hope to write our letters in the middle of November, so if we can have an address by November 15th, that would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

MLC Teachers

Week 2 Update

Senior Jumpers for current Year 5’s

You know it’s near the end of the school year when Senior Jumpers are organised for the Year 6’s! Today the Year 5’s were sized for next year’s Senior Jumpers. The rule of thumb is for jumpers to reach the ends of the fingertips to allow for growth. Your child will bring home their sizing sheet today. Please sign and return this to school by Monday, 25 October so the order can be processed. You will receive an email with payment details next week. The jumpers will be completed and delivered to school before the end of this term. Students will receive their jumper after payment has been received.

If you are concerned about the sizing, the sizing kit will be available in the front office for you to check yourself until Monday, 25 October. Please contact Darlene Hall if you have any questions or concerns at dhall@stmichaels.sa.edu.au.

During mental math time children work on number patterns and place value.

During the week they are involved in activities to help increase word vocabulary, sounding skills and identify syllables. If you would like children to revise words at home, they are able to access the word list and task on Kids A-Z app.

UOI: We are in the process of completing our unit on Local government and being an active citizen. During this unit we have been learning to work as a group and listening to others point of views and concerns around local government issues (major traffic congestion in Hahndorf’s main street).
