MLC P & MLC K swimming on Friday

Hello MLC K and MLC P swimmers,

The pool has asked all swimmers to bring a set of clothes that they could swim in at the pool on Friday. The lesson on Friday, 24th September is meant to help the students be more comfortable swimming in actual clothes. This would help them in an emergency situation. They will wear their bathers under these clothes.

Also, a blue and white Ripcurl towel with the name Puiatti has gone missing. If it accidently made it to your home, please send it to the office and we’ll reunite it with its owner.

Thank you!

End of Year Information

Hello everyone,

Water Fun and Colour Run Day         Tuesday 8th December

This year, we will not be holding our regular Whole School Christmas Lunch in the gym, however, we will be going ahead with the Water fun afternoon and our annual colour run.  Children will need to pack a lunch as normal.

Children can come to school in Christmas themed clothing, as classes will be involved in many Christmas activities throughout the day.

After lunch (2pm) students will have the chance to be involved in a wide variety of water and dry games.  Just before 3pm we will begin the colour run, which will follow a course through the school ground.

The colour run powder works best on white clothes and so we invite children to bring a white t-shirt to school to use during the colour run.  The colour run powder is non-toxic and can be removed with laundering.

As children end up very messy, we suggest that, if you are collecting your child from school on that Tuesday, you pack a large garbage bag for your child to wear over their clothes in the car.  Towels for the car seat are also a good idea.  Alternatively, you are welcome to use the Bukatila changerooms for your child to change before heading home.

If your child is travelling by bus, they may wish to pack clean clothes to change into after the colour run.

Participation in the colour run is optional.  Children who do not want to be involved will be able to watch from a central position.

Parents are welcome to attend this event on the Oval from 2pm, being mindful of COVID safe practices.

If you have questions about the day, please talk to your child’s teacher.

Mobile Phones, ‘Phone Watches’ and Messaging at School

Technology is moving so quickly. There are so many ways that we can communicate and this year, one of the ‘hot’ items on children’s Christmas lists is a smart watch that has cellular connectivity and can work as a telephone.  There are a number of these smart watches on the market at the moment.

At St Michael’s we ask that students do not bring mobile phones to school. If a child proves to have a need for a phone, (e.g. To assist their travel to and from school)  then the teachers care for the phone during the day and students can retrieve it at the end of each day.  All communications to students are to go through the front office as that helps us to keep track of students movements and maintain our duty of care.

As our families plan for Christmas gifts, please remember that if your child receives a phone, they will not be able to use it at school and if they receive a ‘watch phone’, they will not be able to wear it at school.

We also remind parents to pass messages to their children through the school office and not ‘message’ them directly during school hours.

Your support is much appreciated.

Library Books

All books need to be returned ASAP. Thank you!

Covid Chaos

Hello everyone,

What an afternoon we’ve had! It was all very rushed at the end but we hope everyone has something to work with while we are away. Luckily we’re winding our school year to a close and had lots of Christmas activities planned.

We plan to start online learning on Friday, 20 November. Look for a Padlet on SeeSaw that your child can tap into so they can check into class by 9:30 am. This is the same procedure that we had earlier in the year. All activities will be located on SeeSaw. If you choose to not participate in this online learning, please send the teacher and the school an email with this intention. We are required to keep attendance. We thank you for your help with all of this.

We hope to see everyone next week! Please stay safe and healthy!

Blessings,

MLC teachers

Term 4 Updates

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your support during our camp last week. The children were great, and we survived and thrived, even with winds and storms.

We’d like to remind students and parents that water fountains are off limits. All students need to have a labelled water bottle at school every day.

All library books need to be returned at the end of this week so inventory can begin.

Next Monday, 23rd November, each MLC class will participate in creek monitoring. Students are asked to wear sport uniform that day as we’ll be active around the creek.

A Message from Mrs Taylor…

There will be some changes to staffing in the Middle Learning Community in 2021.  Mrs Darlene Hall has taken up the PYP Coordinator Leadership role vacated by Mrs Stevens and will be therefore be stepping out of the classroom.  We know that Mrs Hall is much loved by her students and will be missed, but she will still be an active part of our school community, working with these students from time to time in her PYP Coordinator role.

We are currently seeking an excellent educator to replace Mrs Hall in the classroom and will advise families when this role has been filled.  We hope that this position will be filled in time for the new teacher to be involved in the Whole School Transition Day on 4th December.  Please also keep reading the school newsletter for 2021 staffing news.

I thank our families for their patience during this time of staffing change.
